Miami Mayor Francis Suarez says adios to White House, but hello to millions

C’mon, now. It wasn’t a real campaign. Not even Miami Mayor Francis Suarez is delusional enough to believe he could have won the Republican primary and run for president of the United States.

Nope. No way. Nah.

Suarez was the joke of the GOP primary — with his AI bot and his tickets to the Lionel Messi InterMiami debut for a $1 contribution to his campaign and the excited announcement that he had qualified for the first debate last week, which nobody believed and turned out to be an outright lie.

This short-lived and comedic campaign — announced in June but hinted at for months — was only designed to position the termed-out mayor for the next step, whatever that may be. So he can run for Florida governor or Miami-Dade Mayor as a “one-time presidential candidate.”

¡Que descarado!

But that was then, before the Miami Herald reported that Suarez was getting $10,000 monthly payments to “consult” for Location Ventures developer Rishi Kapoor, who simultaneously needed help getting permits for his projects in the city. The FBI has started investigating.

And now we learn, through a detailed financial disclosure Suarez filed Monday, that the Kapoor gig was just one of 14 side jobs Suarez has had while serving as mayor. His income from them ranges between $2 and $13 million (because he only has to report a range, i.e., $100,000 to $1 million) for each. That also includes anywhere between $85,000 and $215K in income from five investment properties.

His net worth has gone from the red when he first ran for the city commissioner to $3.4 million last year.

On Monday, just before he announced leaving the race on Tuesday, Suarez — who makes $130,000 a year as mayor — submitted the detailed financial disclosure that shows he has several outside jobs that could maybe kinda coincide with his city role. For years, Suarez has declined to disclose his outside employment situation. The presidential race forced his hand.

Baby X had taken an extension from filing the detailed financial disclosure all presidential candidates have to file. His new deadline was Monday. Didn’t he know already that he was going to bow out of the race?

In addition to his mayoral salary, he listed a $360,000 a year salary with DeGrosa Capiital Partners, $240,000 a year from Redivider Blockchain, $120,000 a year from eMerge Americas and $60K from Legacy Wealth Management. He also made 5% on specified transactions at Dreamer Capital LLC. Oh, and of course, between $1 million and $5 million a year from Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan.

Is this the same guy who spent $1.3 million on his failed attempt to become a strong mayor? Where would he have found the time? At least now we know why he’s a no-show mayor and has no interest in stopping the rampant corruption on the dais. He’s busy.

Perhaps Suarez should resign as mayor of Miami and let someone else without so many distractions do the job. He’s obviously not interested.

And should the FBI maybe expand its investigation?
