Martin Zilber gets nod in Miami D2 special election from ADLP’s palanca

Add the International Brother of Electrical Workers Local #349 to the list of individuals and entities who have endorsed former (read: disgraced) Miami-Dade Circuit Court Judge Martin Zilber for city of Miami commissioner in District 2.

Likely under pressure — as the head of the IBEW is the father of a lobbyist who is pals with Commissioner Alex Diaz de la Portilla, who is pushing hard for Zilber.

Diaz de la Portilla and Commissioner Joe Carollo lobbied the police and fire union to endorse Zilber. The IBEW nod is just more palanca.

“We thank Judge Zilber’s tireless efforts and support to improve the quality of life for working men and women, affordable housing for working families, improving our transit system, economic growth and being a champion for the community” said Bill Riley, Business Manager for IBEW.

Affordable housing? Transit? When? How? Zilber has zero track record.

But Riley couldn’t have endorsed anybody else and stayed pals with ADLP. The IBEW also had to endorse baby bro Renier Diaz de la Portilla for judge last year — and we all know how that turned out.

Bill Riley’s son and namesake chaired the campaign committee to elect Baby DLP. And Commissioner Diaz de la Portilla vacationed with him and his wife, Amy, in Boston last year, weeks after the city gave Riley’s client, the Centner Academy, exclusive use of a city park and upzoned some other properties.

In other words, Riley is part and parcel of the criminal enterprise at City Hall.

Add Zilber to that list.
