Coral Gables Vice Mayor Vince Lago raised more money for his campaign in January than any other month since he began fundraising a year ago.

With a reported additional $69,440, that brings his total to more than $228,000. His only opponent so far — qualification is at the end of the month — is Commissioner Pat Keon, who began in December and has raised a total of $48,325, including $31,325 in January, according to the latest campaign finance reports, which were filed last week.

That’s less than half what Lago collected.

Of course, Keon also has $100K more for a $148,325 total because she loaned it to herself. Or did she? Is that a pass through third party donation from someone else?

There was no obvious bundling that Ladra could find, and more than half of Keon’s checks last month — for more than $24,000 — were from neighbors on Edgewater Drive. There was also a $1,000 check from former Congresswoman Donna Shalala and $100 from onetime Florida gubernatorial candidate Alex Sink.

Can’t find any obvious bundling in Lago’s report, either. Notable checks include $1,000 each from Jackson Memorial Health CEO Carlos Migoya, political consultant David “Disgustin” Custin, former Gables Commissioner Chip Withers as well as lobbyists Iris Escarra, Manny Kadre and Tim Gomez.

He also got $500 from Gables zoning attorney Lucia Dougherty.

Lago has spent a little more than $30,000, including $5,815 in commission to Brian Goldmeier, his professional fundraiser, $6,246 to LVP Consulting, $6,266 to Jesse Manzano and $6,850 to The American Strategies Group, owned by Gables activist Ariel Fernandez, who also runs the Gables Insider website.

Keon has spent a little more than $20K so far, including $1,350 to her finance consultant, Samantha Pollara, $4,325 on advertising and $14,000 on her Orlando-based campaign consulting firm, The Kitchens Group, not The Kitchen Soup, as it says on her finance report.

Maybe she should spend a little more for help with her accounting.
