Esteban Bovo gets campaign hug from homophobic slavery defender Daniels

When she was a preacher, former State Rep. Kimberly Daniels thanked God for slavery. As a Jacksonville city councilwoman in 2008, she voted against LGBT protections, equating homosexuality with bestiality and necrophilia.

And on Monday, she endorsed Miami-Dade Commissioner Esteban “El Bobo” Bovo for county mayor.

We know this because Bobo the bozo celebrated it. He put Daniels at a podium and at a campaign event and legitimized her hateful and dangerous rhetoric. Then he tweeted photos from the event and said he was “humbled” by her presence.

Humbled!

Why not just hand the victory to Miami-Dade Commissioner Daniella Levine Cava? If Bovo’s team had any sense, they would have thanked Daniels and asked her to keep her kudos private. Perhaps Team Bobo is desesperado to show black support in larger measure than the two long shot loser mayoral rejects Ludmilla Domond, who was at the event Monday, and Monique Nicole Barley, another wannabe castaway from the August primary, endorsed him about a week later.

Meanwhile, Levine Cava has the backing of every fellow Commissioners Jean Monestime, Barbara Jordan, Denniss Moss and Audrey Edmonson — every black commissioner — who know our community better than Daniels, a rejected legislator and former pastor from North Florida who preached about demonic possession and said that Halloween candy was “prayed over by witches.” Seriously. Candy corn is evil!

But “consensual” sex between a 19-year-old and a 14-year-old is good. Because Daniels amended a House bill in 2018 so a 19-year-old who forces a 14-year-old into any sexual activity — which we guess could include bestiality and necrophilia, in addition to prostitution — is charged with a civil citation, not criminal charges, as long as the relationship is consensual, which just seems impossible.

In 2018, when she proposed a controversial bill to put “In God We Trust” somewhere on every school, Daniels drew scrutiny and someone uncovered a YouTube video of a 2008 sermon at the Solid Rock Church in Ohio where Daniels thanks God for slavery, claiming “if it wasn’t for slavery, I might be somewhere in Africa worshiping a tree.” You’d be able to see it because Ladra would link to it right here, except YouTube removed it because it violated their policy on hate speech.

Ten years earlier, as a city council member, she voted against an ordinance that would protect the LGBT community in Jacksonville. Calling it a “slippery slope,” Daniels wondered out loud if laws to protect sexual relations with animals and corpses would be next.

This is not just far right, this is far out there.

“For a community like ours that prides itself for its diversity and respect for all walks of life, it’s highly offensive that Steve Bovo would not only welcome this endorsement, but stands shoulder to shoulder in our community with someone who was recently rejected by Jacksonville voters for her extremist views and highly divisive agenda,” said Levine Cava’s campaign consultant, Christian Ulvert, in a statement.

“This endorsement only reaffirms that Steve Bovo is out of touch with Miami-Dade voters and the values we expect in our next Mayor,” Ulvert said. “He owes our residents answers as to where he stands with Kim Daniels and her extremist agenda.”

Ladra says he owes us more than that. Bovo should denounce Daniels and and reject her endorsement — as he returned contributions from former Congressman David Rivera after he was accused of getting money from the Venezuelan government — as well as apologize to everyone of us for being clueless and/or opportunistic to take her support in the first place.

Or, better yet, resign his campaign for mayor because he has repeatedly shown he can’t represent all of Miami-Dade.
