Hialeah Mayor Carlos Hernandez is snubbed by Gov. Ron DeSantis

Karma is, indeed, a bitch.

Hialeah Mayor Carlos Hernandez — who has famously blocked Ladra from events and expelled her and others from council meetings — was himself intercepted and prevented from entering a meeting Tuesday with Gov. Ron DeSantis and several local mayors to discuss ongoing efforts to curb the spread of COVID19 in Miami-Dade, which has become the global epicenter of the pandemic.

When Hernandez learned he had not been invited, he called DeSastre a “spoiled child.”

Could this be GOP retaliation for having endorsed Democrat Alex Penelas in the county mayoral race?

Hernandez told local Spanish-language news channels that he found out about the briefing about noon Tuesday. So he’s already out of the loop.

Given Hialeah’s hierarchy as the second largest city in the county and the one with the most cases of COVID — the state’s second highest number only last month — Hernandez drove over to the mayor’s office at County Hall .

“I thought it was important to be there,” he said on TV.

Nana nina, someone with the guv’s office told him. “He said I was not invited. That it was for select mayors,” Hernandez said. “It was a tremendous disrespect to the city of Hialeah.”

In attendance were Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez and the mayors of Doral, Miami, Miami Gardens, Pinecrest and the Village of Bal Harbour, which has 29 cases of COVID. Could it have been been Gimenez who got him off the welcome list? After all, Hernandez has been increasingly critical of the county mayor’s response to the pandemic. But, then again, so has Miami Mayor Francis Suarez. So has Miami Gardens Mayor Oliver Gilbert. Both were invited.

A spokeswoman with the mayor’s office said the governor’s office handled the invites. The governor’s office said they don’t know and DeSantis offered to meet with Hernandez separately. Instead of seizing that opportunity, Hernandez went on Cuban radio Wednesday morning and said he had no reason to meet with DeSantis.

“It’s not like we’re friends,” he said, sounding terribly pained.

But he expects to be invited to the next meeting with the “spoiled child.”
