New Miami-Dade chair, vice chair meet to coordinate ‘vision’

jeanbovoMiami-Dade Commission Chairman Jean Monestime and Vice Chair Esteban Bovo will take over the helm of the ship after the official, public installation ceremony and swearing-in Jan. 16 with their families standing proud and loved ones/lobbyists gushing and TV cameras rolling.

But they apparently can’t wait or want to start planning their rule in advance.

Monestime, — who will become the first Haitian American to hold a commission chairmanship nationwide — and Bovo, a former State Rep who was elected in the hasty 2011 recall fallout, are scheduled to meet MonestimeBovoThursday morning to discuss the chair’s “vision” and the vice chair’s “role,” according to the online county calendar.

I kid you not. Apparently only one of them gets a vision. The other serves a role.

Neither one of them called me back to give me a preview of what they might chat about. But, while it seems to mean that they will talk about priorities and issues that could presumably come up later for a vote, it’s not a violation of the Florida Government in the Sunshine Law because they publicly noticed it and the meeting — at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the third floor conference room at County Hall — is open to the public.

So I guess I’ll just have to wait and find out then. Wanna bet I’m not alone?

Any of the other 11 commissioners can go and Ladra suspects at least three or four of them will. Not just out of curiosity, but also because each of them has a shopping list of committees they want to be on or even chair of, and their presence may earn them brownie points.

Or the port and economic development committee.
