It was a busy week, photographically, for our Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez.

Monday, he launched the Employ Miami-Dade initiative and then he hosted his annual toy drive at the Biltmore Hotel Tuesday. Wednesday he became embroiled in the U.S. policy Cuba blunder and was busy responding to multiple media requests on that. But by Friday, Gimenez was focused locally again, as he awaited the return of Eastern Airlines to MIA with Miami-Dade Aviation Director Emilio Gonzalez.

In between, on Thursday, the mayor joined a menagerie of politicos at Radio Mambi to talk Cuba and Happy Holidays with host Marta Flores. It was more like Miami-Dade Commission Chairwoman Rebeca Sosa‘s show Thursday night as she welcomed her homeboy Sen. Marco Rubio and a slew of others: Commissioners Jose “Pepe” Diaz and Esteban Bovo, Miami Mayor Tomas Regalado, Property Appraiser Pedro Garcia, Miami-Dade Pubic Schools Superintendent Alberto Carvalho (who only acts like an elected) and Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen.

Doral Mayor Luigi Boria and Hialeah Mayor Carlos Hernandez, who share a campaign consultant (Sasha Tirador is everywhere), were apparently not invited. But they had gotten together with Carines Moncada for the Actualidad 1020 AM holiday toy drive Wednesday.

Gift drives were de rigeour last week. State Rep. Kionne McGhee (D-South Dade) hosted and presented the 5th Annual Children of Inmates Toy Drive, where he collected dozens of gifts for children in need.

And Sen. Anitere Flores (R-Kendall) and State Rep. Jose Felix “The Selfie King” Diaz (R-Kendall), the chair and vice chair, respectively, of the Miami-Dade Legislative Delegation, enjoy some holiday time Monday with seniors in their district.

But there is still work getting done. State Reps. Jeanette Nuñez (R-Doral) and Manny Diaz, Jr., (R-Hialeah Gardens) attended the Hispanic Council for Reform and Education Options Roundtable in Miami Wednesday.

Also on Wednesday, Miami Commissioner Keon Hardemon and Miami-Dade Commissioner Audrey Edmonson helped out in the ground breaking of a new, 158-unit affordable apartment community, The Plaza at the Lyric, that is a public-private development in partnership with the state, the county, the Southeast Overtown/park West Community Redevelopment Agency and Gatehouse Group, Inc.

And, while outside the 305, Florida Gov. Rick Scott and Lt. Gov. Carlos Lopez-Cantera lit the second candle on the Menorah Wednesday at Chabad of Palm Beach Gardens.
