The highlight of last week’s pols in pics has to be Gov. Rick Scott and Sen. Marco Rubio, who were in town Friday to attend a Doral rally in support of protesters in Venezuela and demand sanctions from the U.S. government, which some called a publicity stunt and others said was a much needed public call to action. The new LG Carlos “C-Lo” Lopez-Cantera was there, too, as was Miami-Dade Commissioner Jose “Pepe” Diaz — who tweeted this pic but, curiously, was not in any photos I could find — but those two are always in Miami so it’s not as exciting.
Doral Councilwoman Bettina Rodriguez-Aguilera, however, was in several photos and landed on the front page of the Tampa Tribune in coverage of the event (and why not the Miami Herald?). Scott, C-Lo and Marco are all, by now, draped in Venezuelan flag scarves.
Doral Mayor Luigi Boria was also at the pro-Venezuelan rally Friday. Saturday, he spent some time at the Trump National Doral with family.
Miami Springs Mayor Zavier Garcia, who was spotted at the county mayoral SOTC address earlier in the week, took time to take in a special Miami Heat game Saturday.
Homestead Councilman Elvis Maldonado enjoyed the city’s Mardi Gras celebration with at least one of his beautiful daughters.
Commissioner Diaz, meanwhile, took in part of the Carnaval on the Mile event in Coral Gables, where he hung out with Chef Pepin at the Winn Dixie tent.
Miami Beach Commissioner Michael Grieco, third from left, spent some time”knee deep in trash along Indian Creek, cleaning up after those that disrespect Miami Beach” with other volunteers Saturday.
And while Grieco picked up trash, Miami Lakes Councilman Tim Daubert promoted trashy eating at the opening of the new McDonald’s in the town on Saturday.
