Miami Beach cartoonist draws on Development Corp scandal

You would think Miami Beach activist and amateur cartoonist Mike Burke would be sitting pretty, happy that the incumbents he railed against lost and glad that newly elected Mayor Philip “Fix-It Phil” Levine was taking over City Hall and everything else.

He’s not.

Burke is apparently perturbed, er, I mean inspired with the scandal that erupted last month after the longtime director of the Miami Beach Community Development Corp. resigned amid an investigation into at least $300,000 in double billings related to an affordable housing project.

The MBCDC is not a city agency, but it gets federal funds, including community development block grants, through the city to work on housing and community redevelopment programs.

And Berke was moved to send me not one, but two editorial cartoons.

If you have artistic ability and want to put your political pet peeves on paper, please feel free to email me the images at edevalle@gmail.com and I will most likely publish it the next weekend.
