Political pics of the week: More toy drives, holiday greetings

The days between Christmas and New Year’s typically make for a slow week in politics and government.

So, there were fewer public events and photo ops than usual, so our new “Political pics of the week” segment — where we take a look at what our electeds did via visual images — is short, but sweet.

Or salty, rather, at least with the last shot.

Let’s dig right in.

State Reps. Manny Diaz, Jr. (R-Hialeah Gardens), and Eddy “Here Comes Hialeah” Gonzalez (R-Hialeah) kicked off a community holiday party this past weekend with Hialeah Council President Isis “Gavelgirl” Garcia-Martinez and Paul “Pablitiquitico” Hernandez. State Rep. Jose “Cigar Czar” Oliva (R-Miami Lakes) and Miami-Dade Commissioner Esteban “Stevie El Bobo” Bovo were also there, though not in this picture.

Bovo was still giving toys to some needy families at his office on Monday.

Meanwhile, also on Monday, Aventura Commissioner Luz Weinberg, second from left below, emceed the Hispanic Leaders breakfast meeting, and took a minute to smile for the camera with the Consul General of Israel, Chaim Sacham, hosting Ambasador Ron Dermer and Miami-Dade Democratic Party Chairwoman Annette Taddeo.

Miami-Dade School Board Member Raquel Regalado, who was supposed to be on the short list for lieutenant guv, posted a holiday greeting on twitter on Christmas Day with this precious pic of her family, including dad, Miami Mayor Tomás Regalado.

South Miami Mayor Philip Stoddard, who faces a re-election in less than two months, was the furthest away from campaigning and doing a different kind of Christmas thing Wednesday. “Shuckin’ oysters in Chincoteague with my Dad and my brother Phil. Pretty much my favorite thing in the world,” posted his brother on Facebook.
