BOSTON, MA and MIAMI, FL - March 16, 2017 - (HISPANICIZE WIRE) - Hispanicize 2017, the iconic 8th annual event for Latino trendsetters and influencers, and FundLatinos, a crowdfunding platform that supports the Latino community, announced today that they have created a partnership to raise funds for the Ovarian Center Research Fund Alliance. All funds raised will be donated to the charity in memory of Jewel Figueras, a multicultural blogger and digital influencer who lost her courageous four-year battle to the disease in January at the age of 53.

The joint fundraising initiative will mark the launch of the Jewel Award for Social Good, to be presented during the 2017 Hispanicize Tecla Awards. The nation’s highest honor for multicultural content creators, the Tecla Awards ceremony takes place on Thursday, April 6, 2017. The ceremony will be held at the historic Olympia Theatre, South Florida’s most iconic performing arts center, and streamed live worldwide, beginning at event at 8PM ET / 5PM PT. Jewel’s husband will be accepting the award in her honor.

“The Jewel Award recognizes digital creators who passionately serve causes through their platforms to help others and to raise awareness about important issues,” said Cristy Clavijo-Kish, Chief Development Officer of Hispanicize Media Group and Chair of the 2017 Tecla Awards. “We are thrilled to have FundLatinos on board to power this campaign and continue Jewel Figueras’ mission to support ovarian cancer research.”

With an emphasis on simplicity, social media sharing and an invitation to fund any size campaign, FundLatinos uses technology and partnerships to foster a trusted environment for Latinos to raise money for personal and community causes that matter – from Quinceañeras and wedding celebrations to education, medical, business and community-based initiatives. The partnership with Hispanicize is part of the platform’s ongoing commitment to power non-profit fundraising initiatives.

“FundLatinos is proud to partner with Hispanicize to raise funds for ovarian cancer research,” said Andrew Vassallo, General Manager of FundLatinos. “Our easy-to-use fundraising platform makes it simple for donors to support important causes, and because we waive fees for non-profit organizations, all monies will go directly to the Ovarian Center Research Fund Alliance in honor of Jewel.”

Four years ago, Jewel Figueras was diagnosed with advanced ovarian cancer. Following her surgery and subsequent chemotherapy treatments, she was active in creating awareness and raising funds for this cause. She was appointed as an Advocacy Leader for the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund Alliance and spent time on Capitol Hill talking to Congress about the disease.

About FundLatinos
FundLatinos was conceived of by StartingFive Partners, a company created by several multi-time successful entrepreneurs and General Catalyst Partners. The idea was inspired by the realization that cause funding platforms and the businesses behind them often lacked a real sense of purpose and community. Several of the company's founders felt particularly passionate about having a social mission that goes beyond traditional business goals.

As part of its commitment to the community, FundLatinos waives all of its fees for non-profit organizations, seeks to build partnerships with local media and aspires to bring in corporate sponsorships from businesses looking to support the Latino community.
