The city of Doral — which has gone through three city managers in 18 months — will take up to 60 days to find the Doralright replacement for its last administrator, former Miami Mayor Joe Carollo, who was fired Monday in a 3/2 vote.

One candidate, however, has already said ‘Thanks but no thanks.’

Mayor Luigi Boria said he had reached out to Nathan Kogon, the city’s former planning and zoning director, after Vice Mayor Christy Fraga suggested it at Monday’s meeting. Boria said that Kogon initially accepted, but within 24 hours said he was no longer interested in the position.

According to Boria, Kogon accepted the job Tuesday. On Wednesday, he called the mayor to say he had changed his mind.

Luigi Boria, Joe CarolloBoria said Kogon was concerned about getting embroiled in the political drama wake left behind by Carollo’s dismissal.

The council voted unanimously Thursday to allow Boria a period of 60 days to nominate someone the council would then verify. If they cannot agree on someone by then, however, they may at that point go to a private headhunting firm to find the right person.

A national search by a professional company is what Council members Sandra Ruiz and Bettina Rodriguez-Aguilera have proposed from the beginning.

Still, I can’t wait to see what applications come into the Human Resources Department. I’m on the lookout for Pat Salerno, the former city manager in Coral Gables who quit last month so he wouldn’t have to explain his lies to the commission. A source in the City Beautiful told me the mayor’s been asking about Salerno.

Don’t you think he fits right in Doral?
