Sabina Covo and Damian Pardo to answer questions

A debate between the two commission candidates in Miami’s District 2 — incumbent Sabina Covo and banker and activist Damian Pardo — has been rescheduled from Tuesday to Friday, which is when the three-day early voting period begins.

Covo, who won her seat over 12 others in a special election in February to replace Ken Russell (who resigned to run for Congress), got 39% of the vote last week, a vote that was spread among eight candidates. It’s better than the nearly 30% she won with in February.

Pardo, one of the founders of SAVE and creator of the Gay8 Festival, got second place for the runoff with 26%.

The organization One Grove — which formed during the redistricting process that divided the neighborhood — will host the online debate starting at 530 p.m. Friday. The zoom webinar debate will be moderated by Miami Herald writer Chuck Rabin and hosted by Mel Meinhardt of One Grove. Anyone can sign in. Register here. The debate will be recorded and distributed afterwards.

Anyone can also submit questions in advance here. Tell Chuck Ladra says hi.

Some questions that should be asked include:

Where the heck has Covo been during all the corruption going on in Miami? She ran and is running as the great corruption crusader. Why doesn’t she speak up at meetings and ask the important questions instead of letting Joe Carollo take a man’s property through eminent domain for a pet project and talk nasty to speakers who take time to come to the commission meetings? Why did she, instead, attend the opening of his exhibit now that he controls the Tower Theater?

Why the delays and the changes to the pool at Elizabeth Virrick Park?

For Pardo? What took you so long to run for office? What are you going to do to ensure that public speakers are respected?

If the debate does it for ya, go straight to one of these five early voting locations and cast your ballot. Hours Friday are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday it is 8 a.m. to 4 p .m.
