Community activist Damian Pardo, a candidate in Miami’s District 2 commission race, has been endorsed by retired political journalist Michael Putney, who recently left WPLG where he was the longtime host of the most popular Sunday morning political show, This Week In South Florida.

“In all my years covering Miami politics, I never endorsed a candidate. Couldn’t do it. But now that I’m retired, I can,” Putney says to open the 30-second spot, on the candidate’s website and on YouTube.

“Damian is a man of high character, absolute honesty,” says Putney, who is also a 47-year resident of the city of Miami. “He is tough, smart and compassionate.

“He’s also a very successful financial advisor. Wouldn’t the commission need that kind of expertise?”

Probably.

Ladra wants to know who Putney likes in the District 1 race.

That endorsement has got to sting incumbent Commissioner Sabina Covo, who is also a journalist by trade.

The other six candidates are (1) Downtown Neighbors Alliance James Torres, (2) Eddy Leal, former general counsel for Miami Mayor Francis Suarez, (3) jewelry and home decor designer Christi Reeves Tasker, (4) shop owner Alicia Kossick, (5) unknown entity Gabriela Ariana Chirinos and (6) Michael Castro, who got almost 30% of the 2016 vote against former Miami-Dade Commissioner Xavier Suarez.

The election is Nov. 7.
