Hialeah liquor store poet points prose at Trump, guns
  • Sumo

For decades, the owner of M&M Liquors in Hialeah has used his store’s marquee sign to wax on current affairs and political news in his own poetic way. Recently, he’s used it to opine on transgender bathrooms, police shootings and, of course, Donald Trump.

In fact, today and tomorrow, Trump could see a message about him if he drives by the store on his way to or from the airport Tuesday or Wednesday.

It’s at least the second Trump sign he puts out there, after this one a few weeks ago:

M&M Liquors has also spoken out about gun violence and the intentional targeting of police officers.

  1. East Hialeah on LeJeune Southbound as you are approaching Okeechobee Road (near the Airport)…Owner has been doing this for years…since I was knee-high to a grasshopper…witty…

  2. Thank you, Jo, and the feeling is quite mutual. Your reputation for community activism extends well beyond Miami Beach. And thanks again to Ladra. Though members of the media may not openly comment on this blog, choosing to maintain their air of journalistic independence, they certainly do read Political Cortadito. Someone at Telemundo read this blog and sent a most beautiful and personable young female reporter and her competent and amiable side kick photographer to visit me. Again, Ladra, thanks. Anytime a beautiful young woman comes around asking for me, I am most thankful.

One thing I did not mention when I commented before and was not noted in your description, the featured prose about Trump and housing was not my original work. It did take some skill to paraphrase and fit it onto my tiny canvas, but the original thought must be credited to Snoop Dogg. I did give him credit when I posted it online myself, and when speaking to the Telemundo reporter.

There is no dishonor is using another’s words, as long as you give credit where it is due. It is not always as important where you take it from, but where you take it to. And with Ladra’s help, we took it to the entire South Florida Latin community. Gracias, mi amiga.

  3. Lickerpoet, you are my hero! Let us hope more people in Florida think as you do. This is a scary time.

Thank you, Ladra, for posting these!

  4. Thanx for my 15 minutes of fame. The only change I would make to your kind description is the implication that Trump, regardless how misdirected he is, would voluntarily drive through Hialeah. Come on, Ladra, you know that no one goes to Hialeah unless they have to go there. And if they travel Lejeune Road, they are forced to suffer my verbiage. Maybe one day I can post Ladra on my sign.

    More bite than bark.
